GROWING UP

Born and raised in Condor Alberta, Dallas grew up and worked on Gayla Quarter Horses until 2001. With this, Dallas developed a passion for horses at a very young age. Dallas began riding and showing horses as a child, competing in multiple events in Alberta.  He won the JQHAA Sportsmanship award in 1980. At the age of 15 in 1983, he placed third in his first 2 year old Open Wild Rose Western Pleasure Futurity. This set Dallas on his path as a professional horseman.  He went on to earn JQHAA High Point Western Pleasure and JQHAA Reserve High Point Western Horsemanship awards in 1985, resulting in the honour of representing Alberta at the AJQHA Youth World Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1986, Dallas represented Alberta at Quarterama in Toronto Ontario, showing in reining, horsemanship, and western pleasure. He helped bring home the Team Tournament Championship for Alberta. At that time, Quarterama was the second largest AQHA show in the world.  Dallas also won Canadian National Championships in Horsemanship and Western Pleasure classes, as well as AQHA Superior Western Pleasure and Youth Superior Western Pleasure awards. During this same time, Dallas also won the Alberta Reining Cow Horse Association, High Point Youth Working Cow Horse.

All the above, was accomplished by Dallas before the age of 19 years old.

FURTHER EXPERIENCE

In 1994, (The Master) Duane Latimer was an important mentor and excellent reference that helped Dallas secure a position in Italy training for Vivalda Quarter Horses. Dallas prepared horses for the Italian Reining Futurity, and ARC Full Of Spirit, placed 4th. Another Italian opportunity was working at La Castagnola, training reining horses. While in Italy, Dallas also coached youth, and showed in other AQHA disciplines such as western riding class. Romance entered and Dallas came home to Alberta and married Carmen in 1996.  He continued to train with his family, at Gayla Quarter Horses in Condor, Alberta, further honing his skills.  In 1998 he showed for the first time at the NHRA Futurity in Oklahoma City. In 2003 Dallas was hired to be the assistant trainer for professional horseman Robert Chown in Gainesville, Texas. Dallas helped to train and prepare horses that would go on to win world titles in reining and working cow horse. He then spent some time at Rocking K Ranch as an assistant trainer for Reid Fadey in Celina, Texas before Dallas and Carmen purchased their place in Callisburg, Texas where they lived for 14 years. In May 2017 they moved to Stauffer, Alberta where they continued to improve their larger property and breeding operation. Dallas has raised and trained horses for nearly 40 years. All of Dallas's horses have evolved from a small group of mares purchased from his father back in the day. In 2021 he purchased a stallion with strong lineage to Metallic Cat, Young 'n High. Dallas has dedicated most of his life to working with and caring for horses. Dallas has been very fortunate to be encouraged by great people/horsemen. Most importantly, he is grateful for these people and friends he has had the pleasure to meet. "They will have a place in my heart forever. "
